Making creative lunches and snacks does not need to be complicated or time consuming. You can create anything that bring enjoyment into having lunch. It doesn’t have to be fancy. Sometimes just putting things in a different plate or lunchbox makes children eat things they don’t normally have!

So what do you do when all you hear is “Mum I’m hungry’”, accompanied by the constant opening of cupboards and fridges – and wails of “Mum there’s nothing there”. Its something that every mother goes through, almost on a daily basis (especially in school holidays!) and it drives each and every one of us crazy! You need an action plan, a list of food on the fridge or cupboard so they can choose what they want and walk away happy, no arguments!

For those little ones who can’t go to the fridge or cupboard and pick out their own snack, one of my favourite ways to keep the “hungriness” at bay, is to use a container with a divider. I make up on one side a Trail Mix with the cupboard ingredients and choose 1 freezer item and 1 piece of fruit or vegetables. If I grate or cut an item in half, I use half and put the other half in the fridge for lunch (like carrots, celery or banana)

Having on hand a list of items they can have for snacks is always a good idea, they are also good for the school lunchbox or to take on picnics or to the park.
